Niagara to Quebec City

NIAGARA TO QUEBEC CITY

Day 2 of 9
Saturday, June 29,2019
86 degrees and sunny

****I have been journalling almost all of my travels since graduating college in 2003.  In 2019, I decided to make them digital! I'm happy to share our adventures with you, but keep in mind they are actually for me and my family!****

Traffic in Toronto is TERRIBLE on the 401.  I'm sure that it doesn't help to be a long 3 day weekend in Canada for Canada Day.  I later found out that this is the longest route to Quebec City from Niagara, but the computer said it was the best.  A 9-hour drive turned into a 13 hours drive.  Can I say how awesome Dylan did?!  He didn't actually complain one time in the car.

ST. HUBERT CHICKEN

We think this is the Chic-Fil-A equivalent to America.  Of course, they speak primarily French and the girl at the counter was wonderful.  From trying to explain the coleslaw (creamy or vinegar), then navigating the chicken and burgers on the menu, she had a lot of patience with us.  Delicious food!

I will say that the stops in Canada's gas stations and rest stops are all very clean.  You can find a Tim Hortons, a St. Hubert's and a Couche-Tard (we laugh every. single. time. at our interpretation of this word) all together at most of them.  I found an awesome cross body backpack that I regret not getting.  It was under $20 Canadian dollars and would have been perfect for the trip, but I decided to pass in hopes of finding a "trendier" one in the city.  Nope, didn't happen.  We also took a different route hope but oh well.

BATTLESHIP

The best thing I found for the trip kept us busy for a few hours.  Battleship in the car is awesome!  This game takes a good 30 minutes or so and any two people in the car can play together.  So fun!

760 RUE HONORE-MERCIER

Our arrival last night was unique, just like the city!  Here was the message we were given
The entrance to our underground parking is located on Rue D'Aiguillon at the corner of Avenue HonorĂ©-Mercier. To access the garage, press the intercom button to signal your arrival; we will then confirm the assigned parking space for your condo.
A random alley leads to a right turn underneath our building.  This turn greeted us with the size of a tight parking spot and a dark garage door that was closed in front of us.  We could only see the intercom by the flickering red light on it where we were instructed to push the intercom button for our reserved parking spot.  After several minutes of ringing, a voice (in French of course) inquired about our reservation.
We were sure that the Lincoln (named Abby on this trip - for Abe Lincoln - but of course she is a female) would not fit through this tiny garage door that opened but with prayer and holding our breath, we were skinny enough to let Paris maneuver our way through! We were then greeted by a 70-degree drop in front of us!  Our parking spot went 5 stories underground into a small, narrow, tight round driving pattern before reaching our destination spot.  It's a good thing we are planning to walk this city and not get the vehicle out several times!

The apartment is nice, on a high floor, clean and a well-stocked kitchen (like a wine bottle opener, high ball, and wine glasses as well as beer glasses).

There is a great balcony overlooking the city and just enough living space for all of us to be comfortable when we aren't out touring the city.

INTERMARCHE

Paris and I went a few blocks to the local market once we were all settled in.  Mom stayed back with Dylan and we purchased some breakfast staples.  Honestly, our main goal was creamer and a few liters of water for the cup of joe in the morning!  Just a few more items and we were ready to call it a night!
